Objectives

The Little Lambs' class is the first school experience for many students at St. Andrew, and we want to make it a positive one. A nurturing environment, where a hug may help dry a tear, is a key factor in enabling your child to feel safe and secure.

Our main goal, during this year, is to develop the social skills your preschooler will need for future success. By providing a myriad of interactive opportunities, children are guided in developing these skills. Walking in line, listening, talking turns, sharing, using good manners, and expressing ideas/feeling verbally are skills encouraged every day as children move about the classroom from one of the following learning centers to another:

1. Building - large Legos, magnetic blocks, cars, trucks and planes
2. Craft - variety of artistic media
3. Easel - painting, drawing and printing
4. Homemaking - dress-up, dolls and kitchen
5. Library - books for all seasons and interests
6. Manipulative Table - puzzles, geo-boards, etc.
7. Pazoo Corner - learning through puppetry
8. Play-Doh and /or Game Table

In addition to social skills, the following academic skills will be emphasized:

1. Recognizing and spelling own name
2. Knowing eight basic colors
3. Knowing five basic shapes
4. Identifying body parts
5. Identifying five senses
6. Recognizing number 1 - 10
7. Reciting days of the week

Our friendly puppet, Mr. Pazoo, will assist the teachers in developing these concepts with a variety of musical and fun activities.
